Florida treats smokable flower differently from every other form of cannabis. It has its own purchase limit, its own supply window and its own possession cap, and those are the numbers that decide whether a big flower deal is actually usable.
The three numbers
Smokable flower, per patient
- 2.5 ounces every 35 days. That is roughly 70 grams, or twenty eighths.
- 4 ounces at home at most. The possession cap is higher than one window, so you can carry some over.
- One shared allowance. Every dispensary reads the same state registry, so buying at two shops does not give you two limits.
How the 35-day window works
Your physician certifies you in supply periods. For smokable flower each period is 35 days, which is shorter than the 70-day periods used for most other routes such as edibles, tinctures and vape cartridges.
The dispensary does not guess what you have left. At the counter they check the Medical Marijuana Use Registry, which records every purchase against your certification. If the registry says you have 10 grams left in this period, 10 grams is what they can sell you, however good the ounce deal is.
Why the counter says no
- Your allowance for the period is used up. It resets when the next 35-day period starts, not on the first of the month.
- Your certification does not include smokable flower. It has to be listed as a route. If it is missing, your physician has to add it.
- Your certification has lapsed. No current order, no sale, even with a valid card in your hand.
What it means for deals
An ounce special at a good price per gram is only a bargain if you have 28 grams of room in the current window. Before a big flower order, check what you have left in the registry or ask the shop to look it up, and plan the large purchases for the start of a period.
Other forms do not count against the flower limit. A cartridge or an edible comes out of its own allowance, so a patient who is short on flower room can still use the deals feed for everything else.
Worth knowing
- 2.5 ounces per 35 days to buy, 4 ounces at home.
- The limit follows you, not the shop.
- Smokable flower has to be on your certification as a route.
The limits above are set by section 381.986 of the Florida Statutes and administered by the Office of Medical Marijuana Use. Rules change: check knowthefactsmmj.com for the current position. This page describes a public rule and is not medical or legal advice.
